Alas, they were wrong, with this modern adaptation serving as both a doting homage and refreshing comedy. The film follows psychiatrist Elizabeth Derby (Graham), who becomes obsessed with a young patient who appears to be suffering from some kind of extreme personality disorder. However, as she dives further into the case, a horrifying occult power threatens to consume her whole life. Suitable Flesh premiered at the 2023 Tribeca Festival, receiving largely positive reviews from critics. The movie has also been a hit with horror fans, with its campy yet horrifying body horror. This Lovecraft adaptation is not for the faint-hearted, but it is a very thrilling watch nonetheless. A visceral, old-school horror movie, Suitable Flesh is based on a simple enough premise, but it becomes so much more thanks to the masterful storytelling and the exceptional performances by its talented cast.
